2nd Affliliated Hospital of Jiujiang University Held Its Groundbreaking Ceremony

The groundbreaking ceremony of 2nd Affliliated Hospital of Jiujiang University designed by AIA LIFE DESIGNERS, together with SHJY Architectural Design Co.,Ltd., was held on the 29th, September, 2020. Mr. Simon Tsouderos, chief designer of the project, AIA LD goup partner and general manager of China branch, gave a speech on behalf of the representative of designers. The Secretary of the CPC of the hospital, the vice mayor of Jiujiang City and relevant responsible persons attended the grand ceremony.
Located not far from the Lushan Mountain, the project benefits from a typical landscape of classical Chinese painting. As a Chinese poem saying, “Seen from the front, Lushan Mountain is a continuous and rolling range, while seen from the side, it turns into a single towering peak. It takes on different shapes as you see it from different perspectives – far or near, high or low”, the ever-changing clouds floating on the Lushan Mountain make it as a fairyland, so as the project is inspired by those peaks which emerge from a sea of clouds, floating above the valley. From the beautiful landscape of Lushan Mountain of Jiujiang city and through the architectural language, mountains, clouds and valley become the main theme of the project, in order to create an ecological garden hospital.Mountains: The shape of the hospital was carved as the volume was cut and staggered, and it echoes rugged montains in the distance.Clouds: The corridor between the hall and the building has a flexible white grille that looks like white clouds floating in the mountains, echoing the design concept of “peaks emerging from clouds”, meanwhile, it ensures the efficient connection of different functional departments of the hospital.Valley: A notch in the center contains gardens. By making full use of the roof terraces located at different heights, a special "shared space + landscape garden" aerial venue was created as an external extension space provided with different functions.
The monolithic built elements are organized around a green valley which gives the project a centrality. The façade of the tower is composed of grey white stone, which marks the clear city outline and shows professional image of the hospital. The podium is made of orange ceramic panel, and this choice of color helps creating a comfortable atmosphere for medical treatment and research.
The building volume encloses the inner courtyard of different scales, creating a multi-level landscape. The main functional space is open to the central courtyard, forming a Garden Hospital integrated with nature.
The municipal road divides the site into two separate areas. On the entrance side, are located the general hospital and surgery center. The backward site includes the teaching & research center, the rehabilitation & check-up center.
The entrance hall has an airy and light structure, like a cloud cover, connecting to different functions.
Medical Street as an important public circulation gathering place, its walkways connect key points of the hospital.
In order to create a comfortable landscape environment for the ward building, the ward and family room facing south have a good view of Lushan Mountain, which is conducive to the recovery of patients.
